Estriol vaginal cream is a low-dose vaginal oestrogen used to treat symptoms caused by reduced oestrogen in the vaginal tissues.
It is commonly prescribed for women experiencing vaginal dryness, irritation, soreness, pain during sex, or recurrent discomfort — particularly during and after menopause.
Estriol acts locally in the vagina and is considered a suitable option for many women who do not require, or do not wish to use, systemic hormone replacement therapy.
Reduced oestrogen can cause the vaginal tissues to become thinner, drier, and less elastic.
Because estriol is applied directly to the vagina, only very small amounts are absorbed into the bloodstream.
